About R21

Restaurant 21 opened its doors in November 2023 in an authentic, renovated monumental building at Peperstraat 23 in Amsterdam. The building is located in a historic, attractive neighbourhood close to Waterlooplein and the Maritime Museum.

The owner of the restaurant is Orlando David, an Amsterdam based top chef and entrepreneur of Chilean-Colombian descent. David was a student from the age of 15 to 18, then became a chef at various renowned restaurants in the Netherlands. Twenty-one years later, he opened his own fine dining concept where his experience comes together: Restaurant 21.

At “R21” David will continue with his own style of cooking: an international, evolving kitchen full of quality products. David has had a lifelong passion for traveling, has taken a look at many cuisines around the world and bases his menu on inspiration gained during his world travels. David’s philosophy is that no chef should be limited in the use of products from all over the world.

The design of the restaurant is characterized by old and new: David loves a modern design, but also has a soft spot for authentic elements. The monumental building serves as a canvas for the sleek, attractive and modern design.
